A COURT has released on bail the 18 students of Aisha Girls High School in Isingiro district who were detained at Naguru Remand Home in Kampala.

Fred Turyakira reports that the girls were arrested two weeks ago in connection with a fire that burnt their dormitory.

On Friday, parents jubilated outside Mbarara Magistrates’ Court after magistrate Isaac Muwata freed their daughters.

State prosecutor Moses Onenchan said the accused allegedly committed the offence on July 8 when they were told to go for evening preps and defied the directive.

But the suspects denied the charges. They were each bailed at sh500,000, not cash and each of their sureties was also given a non-cash bond of sh500,000.

The girls will reappear in court on August 15 for hearing of the case.
