GTV, the Super League media and commercial rights owners, have finally secured a title sponsor for the 2008/2009 league that kicks off with a double header at Namboole this Saturday, reports Douglas Mazune.

Police will take on Victors while SC Villa face champions KCC in the opening games of the season that will be televised live on Pay television Gateway TV.

GTV general manager Daniel Kagwe (left) told The New Vision in an exclusive interview in Kampala yesterday that they will soon unveil several companies including a title sponsor.

“We have got a title sponsor. The name of the league will definitely change because the title sponsor will take the naming right,” Kagwe said with a hearty laugh.

Kagwe explained that GTV will sign a four-year deal with the sponsor which will be renewable annually.

“We have the commercial rights of the league so the money we get from the title sponsor is revenue for GTV,” he explained.

“A title sponsor supersedes all clubs sponsors, it will be important for clubs seeking sponsorship to inform us for guidance.”

The title sponsor’s rival brands will not be permitted to sponsor clubs. URA, Maji, Kakira, Kinyara and SC Villa are the only sponsored teams in the league so far.
