Over 2,000 families in Kashari county, Mbarara district have appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to come to their rescue after their water supply was disconnected.

Moses Basheija, the LC1 chairman of Bwizibweera Village Cell, recently lamented that their cattle did not have enough water. He said families with over 20 herds of cattle were scrambling for dirty water at Bwentaama well, which was very small.

Basheija also said people moved long distances of almost 10km in search of water since it was the dry season.

He added that he had reported the problem to the concerned authorities, but nothing had been done to ensure that water was reconnected.

However, Richard Tabaro, the LC3 chairman of Rwanyamahembe, said the water pipes were cut by a grader which was repairing Bwizibwera-Biharwe Road.

He said they had reported matter to the National Water and Sewarage Corporation in Mbarara and were waiting for them to repair the pipes.

Iddi Ssengendo, a resident of Bwizibwera, urged the authorities to look intothe matter, saying they needed a lot of money ranging from sh53,000 to sh 200,000 per resident to be reconnected. “What shocks us is that we receive water bills from National water and Sewerage Corporation. I do not know what they charge us for.”
