THE Government has started allocating plots of land in the Namanve Industrial Park to 240 investors.

Tom Burunguriza, the deputy executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), said the land allocations had kicked off this month and would end in September.

“There are 240 proposals for setting up businesses. The applicants have to justify their proposals to get land.

They will write a lease agreement for the land with the Solicitor General.” Burunguriza said during a presentation.

“The planned investment of those who have applied is sh2b and we expect to create 30,000 jobs.”

He said a committee had been set up to manage the park, while plans to provide adequate water, roads and power were underway

“There is still a lot of land at the park, which has 2,209 acres.”

The park aims at providing serviced land to industrial investors so that they can create employment, Burunguriza explained.

The park is to be developed in phases and has been divided into different sections. The sections are light industries, heavy industries, food processing, inland port and recreational facilities.

Other parks being developed include the Luzira Industrial Park (70 acres), Mbarara Business Park (12 acres), Soroti Industrial Park (200 acres), Hoima (100 acres), Masindi (200 acres) and Jinja (200acres).
