SWEET Kid says his career has been built for and by the ladies. After two albums — Kankutwale and Tobesiga, the 26-year-old artiste is back with something new, a sensual duet with songbird Juliana Kanyomoozi.
“Juliana has such a mellow and sensuous voice. You can imagine how overjoyed I felt after I called her up suggesting a duet and she agreed. She compliments me and brings out the best in me,” Sweet Kid says.

And the duet, Sirinaayo Mulala, is impressive. It is such a breath of fresh air from the predictable Sweet Kid music we have heard before. Sirinaayo Mulala opens with Juliana’s sensuous moaning and sighing before Sweet Kid joins in.

What makes this song irresistible is its Rhythms and Blues base, dancehall beats and reggae snares.

Like his music partner, Sweet Kid was raised and mentored on a diet of RnB music. However, he left Karaoke to take on the more uptempo Afrobeat because, “Ugandans’ musical tastes are defined by a heavy bass line, kick and snares,” he says.

He adds that his voice is a bridge between Jamaican hardcore and melody. His debut hit, Maama Brenda, is a clear testimony of this. The song packs tender love lyrics on an extremely danceable Afrobeat vibe that instantly urges one to get off their feet and onto the floor.

The biggest drawback to his career is that his music is often predictable. To this, Sweet Kid says: “Critics should go on and listen to Sirinaayo Mulala.”

Juliana could not be reached for comment since she was reported to be on a musical tour of the United States. And that is why Sweet Kid is holding up the launch of his latest album.

Meanwhile, he is honing his voice so that he can put up a live performance alongside Juliana at the launch.

Other songs on Sweet Kid’s new album are Ofunanga yo Akadde, a kickass Afrobeat tune in which he urges men to spare some time for their wives and Omwami Wo, which has the same message but directed towards the ladies.
