HIGH-FLYING Santa Anzo’s Arapapa fashion power house featured in the third Fashion Night at Club Silk on Thursday. As the models made their encore, Santa Anzo informed the guests that the Uganda International Fashion Week, which was last held in 2006, would be resurrected this November.

The evening of fashion, music and beautiful models was sponsored by Jomayi Property Consultants and Club Silk. The fashion night takes place every second Thursday of the month and showcases Uganda’s reknown and upcoming designers.

The event which was themed Be Black or Gold kicked off at 8:55pm, almost an hour late. The fashion show together with other performances lasted only an hour.

Santa Anzo showcased her trademark African fabric designs starting with a mixed collection of her African designs, then the corporate and casual Friday collections and finally, the gold-and-black couture collection which was part of the designs she showcased in San Francisco last year.

The black/gold creations prompted the most reaction. Sensual and feminine, it combined contemporary themes like the corset with the traditional style of the busuuti.

The rest of the collections did not differ much from what she showcased in the past. Except for one male model that had the ladies screaming and swooning, the rest of the models did not exude the glamour and elegance that we see on the international fashion scene. There is still room for improvement particularly on the runway and the makeup.

The other entertainers for the night were Sweet Kid, Grace Nakimera of the Ani Akumanyi fame and Toniqs, the new music sensation.
