BANK of Africa has opened its eight branch in the country at Ntinda trading centre in Nakawa Division.

John Caruthers, the bank’s board chairman, said opening more branches was a result of growing customer numbers.

“We laud Bank of Uganda for spearheading establishment of the Credit Reference Bureau that is expected to strengthen integrity of the financial system. We are still waiting for implementation of the national identification system and anti-money laundering law,” Caruthers said.

Kwame Ahadzi, the managing director, said they were increasing their footsteps in almost every corner of the country to ensure all Ugandans access financial services.

“The congestion in the city centre coupled with other factors like traffic jam are forcing us to decentralise our services to suburbs like Ntinda and Nalukolongo,” Ahadzi said.

David OpioOkello, the acting deputy governor of Bank of Uganda, lauded the introduction of reputable shareholders in Uganda’s financial sector with vast international experience from places like the International Finance Corporation, European Investment Bank and the Netherlands Development Finance Company.

“Within less than one year, Bank of Uganda licensed seven new banks. They include Housing Finance, United Bank of Africa, Kenya Commercial Bank, Global Trust Bank, FINA Bank, Eco Bank and Toom Bank,” OpioOkello said.

“Bank of Uganda appreciates all efforts made by Bank of Africa to increase outlets,” he said.
