JUDITH Babirye is a powerhouse. She is a musician, wife, mother and pastor. When she dropped her debut hit song, Beera Nange, in 2006 she penetrated both the secular and gospel music markets.

That year, Babirye won the Pearl of Africa Music Award for Best Gospel Single (which she snubbed) and was also nominated in the inaugural Victoria Gospel Music Awards.

She launched her debut album of the same title at Nakivubo Stadium that year and the venue was packed to the brim.
Two years later, the star is making a comeback with a six-track album titled Nzijukira (Remember Me).

On this project, Babirye teams up with producer Andrew Kiwanuka of Three in One Studios. And this album is available at Lusyn Enterprises on Market Street — a label that markets many big names.

And like her previous project, this one should touch many souls, irrespective of age or religion. In Babirye’s words: “It is destined to override Beera Nange.

People have fallen in love with three of the songs —Nzijukira, Newaayo and Yesu Mulamu. I thank God who makes me sing music that touches people. Many of my fans shed tears of joy in churches after listening to my music. I feel blessed.”

The album includes songs like the reflective Ooh Nninda (Ooh I’m Waiting) and the authentic sound of Yesu Mulamu (Jesus is Alive). Any listener will enjoy Newaayo, a ballad which offers a message of hope during despair. The lyrics of this song testify to the trials Christians face.

Then there is the saxophone-led Yesu Nkwata (Jesus Hold Me) celebrates the love of Christ.

Babirye will launch this album on October 9 at Theatre La Bonita.
