Ugandan men are better lovers

DOES drinking Tusker, eating nyama choma and ugali in a poorly lit smoke-filled noisy joint sound romantic? I do not think so. This is the perfect description of a date in Kenya — the kind of setting where a guy asks for a woman’s hand in marriage.

The average Kenyan guy so rough that any woman would be expected to run if he asked her out, but some Kenyan girls find them romantic.

The dishevelled look, crude voice and pride date back to the mau mau era when men went to the bush to fight for independence as the women stayed home.

That is what the Kenyan men want; a woman so hardened up and strong to stand alone when he is not there, but still craves for him, like her life is incomplete without him.

He will show so much determination when asking a woman out. And in case you thought it was going to be nyama choma just for the two of you, think again because his buddies will join you.

It is considered rude not to join the company of people eating nyama choma. This would not be much of a problem if they would just eat and leave, but this is their time to catch up on the latest.

“I have been in Uganda for five years and envy the girls here. They are privileged to date Ugandan men,” Judith, a Kenyan, says.

While no woman wants a protective boyfriend, it feels good knowing that someone cares and checks on you often. In Kenya, when a woman does not hear from her boyfriend for days, and he finally shows up, she may think it is time to celebrate his comeback by dining out.

But instead, he asks her to cook ugali and sukumawiki, citing how expensive food in restaurants is, fuel costs, fear of being hijacked on the way back and how good a cook she is.

When you compare Uganda and Kenya, finance and romance contrast. One time, a woman prepared a candle-lit dinner to cut on the costs of dining in a restaurant.

But to her surprise, her boyfriend asked how much she had spent on the candles; whether she was given a discount and if she hoped to pay for electricity after spending so much!

While a Ugandan guy will take a loan just to give you a good time, a Kenyan man would worry about spending his money on you.

For a Kenyan man, what you see is what you get, though many times, you might settle for less.
