A SOLDIER attached to Bombo barracks has been jailed for eight years after confessing to shooting a woman dead.

Justice Benjamin Kabiito on Wednesday sentenced George Eriabu to jail after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter, an offence committed in March 2005 at Lumuli village, Luweero district.

Eriabu killed Beatrice Kusa who was travelling on Bombo road with her husband in a family car.

On the fateful night, after drinking beer from a nearby bar, Eriabu refused to pay the bill. He then rushed to the barracks to get an AK47 gun, which he used for shooting at every passing vehicle on the road.

Court heard that in the rampage, Eriabu shot Kusa, who died on the spot.
Justice Kabiito described Eriabu’s action as inexcusable and deplorable.

Dressed in a checkered shirt and black trousers, Eriabu appeared downcast as the judge announced the prison term. He walked out of the dock and sat quietly as he waited to be taken away.
