EMMA Okwi scored his seventh goal of the season as Sports Club Villa held Victors to a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Super League game played at Kakindu stadium yesterday.

Villa coach Sula Kato leading his team against his former employers saw his side fall behind in the 35th minute when Julius Ongude met Edrisa Kaye’s well weighted corner kick with a powerful header.

It was a deserved lead for the hosts who dominated most of the first half but Ongude and skipper Simon Sserunkuuma put to waste a score of chances. On three occasions, Jogoos’ keeper Robert Odongkara was at Sserunkuuma’s mercy only for the striker to fluff the chances.

Realising danger, Villa exerted pressure after restart and it paid off in the 66th minute when veteran Badru Ssenkaayi brought down playmaker Steven Bengo in the forbidden area.

Leading league scorer Okwi stepped up to take the resulting penalty kick and made no mistake sending Victors keeper Ali Kimera the wrong way.

Victors acting coach Paul Mukatabala, also a Villa Park old boy, said his side would have won the game but his defenders always appeared uncomfortable with Bengo.

“The defenders were always nervous whenever Bengo had the ball. That is how we came to concede a useless penalty,” Mukatabala lamented after the game.

At Nakivubo, another veteran Robert Ojok and Richard Oyoo were on the mark as Boroboro upset hosts Sharing 2-1 in another Super League match.
Anthony Egesa pulled one back just minutes to the final whistle.
