OVER 200 Karimojong from Kotido have, in the past one week, crossed into Pader in search for food and pasture for their cattle, Pader resident district commissioner (RDC) said on Thursday.

Lapolo said the Karimojong migrated due to the famine that has hit their district.

“They have since found refuge in Paimol, Lapono, Parabongo Sub Counties and Kalongo town council all in Agago County. I have informed the Kotido RDC about these people,” Lapolo said.

The RDC, who is also the chairman of the district security committee, told Saturday Vision that the Pader District Disaster Management Committee is to convene an emergency meeting to address the problem. The influx, he said, might turn out to be a security threat.

“We are appealing to the district leaders and government officials to come and register these people and to see how best they can be assisted with relief food,” the LC5 councillor for Lapono Sub County in Agago County, Joel Ogal, said.

“We are now sharing with Karamojong the little food from our gardens and if the food runs out then famine will hit our area seriously.”
