Mugabe makes flying start in Burundi

UGANDA’s Duncan Mugabe started his quest for success in the ITF/Futures money circuit by beating Belgium’s Pim Van Melle 7-6(4) 6-2 in Bujumbura, Burundi on Monday.

UGANDA’s Duncan Mugabe started his quest for success in the ITF/Futures money circuit by beating Belgium’s Pim Van Melle 7-6(4) 6-2 in Bujumbura, Burundi on Monday.
The unseeded Ugandan, appearing for the first time in the circuit, made a low key start before he stepped up gear to take the first set 7-6(4).
Mugabe wrapped up the game by taking the next set 6-2 to book a date with seed seven Mohammed Mohazebnia of Iran today.
The 17-year-old Mugabe is one of the several unseeded players battling in the circuit that started this week.
Action will continue with the Kigali leg due September 5-20. The circuit will end with the Kampala leg slated for September 22-27.
