TH Police, on Thursday, arrested a man on suspicion of cannibalism after he allegedly secretly kept a body in his house in Kireka.

Sowedi Kimera, 33, a hawker at Ntebetebe zone Kireka, a Kampala suburb, was arrested on Wednesday evening when residents and Local Council officials tipped the Police of an unidentified body in his house.

The Kampala Extra Police spokesman, Simeo Nsubuga, said the Police raided the house and recovered the covered body of a woman in his sitting room.
They later arrested Kimera at a local drinking joint. Enraged residents attacked Kimera, accusing him of cannibalism.

According to Police, Kimera had a gate pass indicating that he had signed for the body from Mulago Hospital mortuary on Wednesday night.

One resident said the dead woman was Annet Mbabazi, a resident of Kireka.

The Police said Kimera was not Mbabazi’s relative and demanded an explanation as to why he had picked the body from the mortuary.

“We have opened a case of cannibalism against Kimera as we continue with our investigations,” Nsubuga said.

Kimera later claimed that the deceased had been his lover at one time.
