JACKSON Asiku has taken on the services of two Mexican sparring partners to sharpen him for his forthcoming IBO title fight next month.

“They are tough and fast hard hitters. By the time I’m through with them, I should be in peak form,” said the Australia based Ugandan from his training camp in Perth.

Asiku, 22(12)3-0 will battle South Africa's Thomas Mashaba, 20(12)2-0 for the vacant IBO super bantamweight title fight at Sydney’s Hodern Pavilion.
Asiku was earlier in the year supposed to challenge WBA champion Chris John in Jakarta, Indonesia but the fight was called off at the last minute.

“I assure Ugandans that the October 25 fight will be a reality,” Asiku assured Ugandan fight fans yesterday.

Asiku who will make 30 years, four days before the upcoming fight, has been hungrily praying for a world title shot for two years.

He proved to the world his readiness for the big stage in 2005 when he knocked out Briton Marc Callaghan to win the Commonwealth featherweight title.

“Victory next month will be a gateway to bigger things,” explained Asiku.
