PARENTS of Te-got Atoo Primary School, in Gulu district, on Tuesday rounded up six teachers, accusing them of late arrival in the school, drunkenness and hurling insults to them.

The teachers were paraded before the assistant District Education Officer, Caesar Akena, and the area councillor LC5, Alex Otim.

They included Mildred Ngoya, Jennifer Aloroker, Jackline Lapaco, Irene Anena Oloya, Christine Akongo, Santo Atwari and Patrick Ocen.

“We are tired of these teachers who keep coming late to school. How do you expect children to pass exams when teachers come to school at 11:00am or even mid-day and leave as early as 3:00pm?”asked the Kiceke LC1 chairman, John Bosco Okumu.

The teachers said they were late because the school did not have accommodation. However, Michael Okello, the chairman of the school management committee, said the parents had constructed eight houses for the teachers since last year but only one was being occupied.

Okello said the problem of the teachers started when the school was being transferred from the displaced site in town to the current site but some of them did not want to move.

Akena said he would forward the names of some teachers to the office of the Chief Administrative Officer for dismissal.

He added that others would have warning letters attached to their files or be transferred to another school.

“We tried to solve the problem, but it is time for action so that our children’s future is not ruined,” Akena said.

Councillor Alex Otim warned that Gulu district would embark on dismissing teachers who did not want to teach.

In a another incident, parents of Lapuda Primary School in Paicho sub-county tried to evict the head-teacher, Clement Okwonga when he was found drunk and wearing a pair of shorts at the school on a Monday morning.
