THE head of political intelligence in the President’s Office and in the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Charles Rwomushana, has resigned.

Rwomushana yesterday said he had resigned following a disagreement with his superiors over the current Temangalo land saga.

He said he had been instructed not to speak about the saga in the media since he was a public servant.

“I have written to the President about my decision to resign. I want to express my views freely, which I am unable to do when I am still a public servant,” he said.

However, a source at ISO said Rwomushana was suspended for discussing security matters in the media.

The source said ISO would carry out an inquiry into Rwomushana’s conduct. He is supposed to appear before the disciplinary committee.

While debating the Temangalo land saga on Vision Voice radio recently, Rwomushana said: “I have restrictions from the same minister that I should not discuss intelligence in the media, but this is no longer a secret. That rhetoric from (Barnabas) Tinkasimire was actually given by his own camp.

"I can testify; they gave me strategies and the strategies are up to CID wanting to crack down on MPs on the probe committee. This is what worries me most. The other day I landed into a group of Bakiga youth who have been mobilised to attack MPs on the other side.”

He added: “My prayer is that (security minister Amama) Mbabazi should help us and give way. Not because he is guilty, but the saga is taking a different direction that is damaging the party and the President. There is also a risk of damaging the country. So, in the interest of the country, the President, the party and his family, he should give way”.

Rwomushana yesterday alleged that his resignation follows a personal disagreement with Mbabazi.
