ARE you tired of playing only VCDs on your computer? Would you like to play DVDs on your computer? Isaac Mulwana, a computer technician in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb, says the process of transforming from VCD to DVD compatibility is simple.

Buy a DVD Read-only Memory (ROM) and engage a technician to fix it into your computer. He adds that radios that have the VCD players can also be made DVD compatible.

“Those radios can be made to play DVDs as long as one has the DVD playback system,” says Mulwana. He advises those transforming their computers and radios from VCD to DVD compatibility to buy the DVD ROM from reliable computer firms.

But before making the switch, Mulwana says, the following should be observed:

For computers
The Random Access Memory (RAM), which is responsible for running of the computer’s software, should be increased.

This is because any updates on a computer means that one needs a higher RAM to cope with the adjustments.

Find out the price of a DVD ROM and negotiate for its installation with the computer technician.

A DVD ROM costs between sh65,000 and shl00,00 depending on the type. Install an anti-virus on your computer to protect it against any virus which can permanently impair the operation of your computer. Anti- viruses include: MacFee, Symantec and Norton.

For radios
Find a technician conversant with music systems. It is not automatic that those who deal with computers can handle radio.
