OLYMPIAN and Africa’s number one Badminton player Edwin Ekiring will be vying for the $50,000(sh84m) prize money in the Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix due October 14-19.

It will be the biggest tournament that the Ugandan badminton ace will be playing in since the Olympic Games in Beijing in August.

“I entered Ekiring in this tournament so that he can earn points to improve on his world ranking,” the player’s coach Simon Mugabi said.

“He needs to start participating in the professional circuit seriously if he wants to reach the top in the world.”

Ekiring, with a world ranking of 91, is the only African in the event and he is seeded 25 out of the 73 entries. Ekiring’s first game is against seed 20 Jan Vondra of the Czech Republic.

The top seed is England’s Andrew Smith.
