TWO guns that the Police suspect were used in robberies in which some city residents were shot at, have been recovered.

This followed two unsuccessful robberies. One of the incidents occurred at Wakaliga, a suburb of Kampala when gun-welding thugs stormed a shop belonging to James Matovu on September 29.

Matovu fought the thugs, who abandoned a sub-machine gun containing 20 bullets. “A fight broke out between Matovu and the thugs when power went off,” the Kampala Extra police spokesman, Simeo Nsubuga, said.

However an unidentified man, who residents thought was part of the gang, was clobbered to death. In a related development, two thugs abandoned a gun containing 27 bullets after an October 3 plan to rob a motorcycle flopped.

Nsubuga said men posing as passengers asked Hannington Ssewankambo, a boda boda rider, to take them to Mengo. “Instead of paying, the fee, they pulled out a gun and shot him on the cheek,” he said.

Ssewankambo made an alarm that roused residents. The thugs disappeared, leaving the gun.
