DUNCAN Mugabe is in for a hectic season ender as he guns for more points on the ITF/Futures circuit, writes Phillip Corry.

The Ugandan youngster, who made his debut on the senior men’s circuit last month featuring in three tournaments, is set for four ITF/Futures competitions between now and December.

He will start with the South Africa F1 tournament October 20-26 in Pretoria then the South Africa F2 event also in the same city.

“He needs to play in those tournaments as he prepares for next season either to continue playing on the circuit or combining tennis with his college scholarship,” Cedric Babu, who manages Mugabe’s tennis schedule, said.

“I advised him that since this is his final year as a junior player he should participate in the East Africa U-18 junior championships in Kampala and it will be good for him if he won the Kampala leg before embarking on a sustained assault on the men’s circuit.”

Mugabe will also participate in the Africa Cup of Nations tennis tournament November 9-17 in Casablanca, Morocco.
From Casablanca he will head for the Gabon F1 and F2 between November 17 and 30.

Mugabe’s last act will come in the ITF East Africa U-18 championships Kampala leg December 2-6 at Lugogo as he says bye to the junior circuit.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old star has climbed to 1,215 in the world men’s ATP rankings after picking four points in the East Africa ITF/Futures circuit.
