THE Young Conservatives (YC) plan to petition Parliament over the delayed re-instatement of the Ankole kingdom. Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, the secretary general, Ssemusu Mugobansonga, said: “President (Yoweri) Museveni should not scare any group of Banyankole which is willing to have Obugabe re-instated.

He has been overshadowing those pressure groups demanding for this kingdom and we shall petition Parliament on this.” Mugobansonga said since the Government has allowed the re-instatement of the Banyala and Baruli chiefdoms, the Ankole kingdom should also be allowed to operate.

“The Obugabe of Ankole was a decisive force in the creation of a federal nation in 1962. That is why Uganda attained her independence so as to accommodate Ankole’s political autonomy. That means it (Obugabe) is still relevant.”

Ssemusu also asked the Baganda to stop equating October 8, with community service (Bulungi Bwansi) day.

“It is the only day we should use to remember Buganda’s independence. This makes Buganda’s demand for federal historical and factual.”
