OVER 1500 children are expected to attend the third Buganda kingdom’s Ekisaakaate workshop. The annual training camp, organised by the Nnabagereka’s Development Fund, teac hes children Buganda’s customs and morals.

The 2009 Kisaakaate, which will run under the theme, ‘Proud to be African’, will be held at Seeta High School, Mbalala campus, in Mukono district.
The camp will be conducted by 80 trainers and will run from January 4 to 18.

“It is high time our children learnt to cherish their backgrounds. They should be proud of being Africans,” Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda said while launching the training at Mengo.

During a colourful ceremony punctuated by music and dance on Thursday, Nagginda hailed the programme for promoting moral rehabilitation among the Baganda children.

“It is the parents’ duty to take care of our children. Ekisaakaate is here to help children get a bright future,” she said.

Sauda Namyalo, the organising committee chairperson, said: “This time, the Nabagereka has accepted to participate in training the children throughout the two weeks.”
The programme was started in 2006, to teach children between 14 and 18 years of age.

However, Namyalo said, next year, the programme would also cater for the younger children.

“We have categorised the camp into two. One will be for those between six and eight years. The second one will be for those aged between nine and 18,” she said.
