A resilient pair of Harriet Tukahirwa and Florence Nanyondo surprised everybody let alone themselves by winning the fourth volleyball circuit unbeaten at Lido Beach, Entebbe on Sunday.

Tukahirwa and Nanyondo, who had been written off by critics, exhibited a combination of prolific skills and experience to put down Dorothy Nampiima paired with Carol Atim, 21-17.

Nampiima, who had retired from the sport mid this year, partnered Atim to make easy work of Kulthum Nakamanya and Faridah Nalinya in the first semi-final.

Tukahirwa and Nanyondo dismissed hitherto favourites Josephine Nammanda and Diana Agaba to reach the final.

Men’s seed one Jeff Lwalanda ended his partnership with Rwandan Lawrence Yakan this year on a high note after winning a second successive title.

Lwalanda and Yakan affirmed their supremacy with a 21-17 final victory over Luke Eittit and Isaac Omedo.

Next on the calendar is the annual international championship under the sponsorship of Nile Breweries.
