Manage music like any other business

EDITOR—Pidson Kareire’s article “Uganda’s top three music stars are hot air” was spot-on. While it is true our musicians have contributed to the developing of the industry, arrogance drug and substance abuse is causing a stir in their ranks.

EDITOR—Pidson Kareire’s article “Uganda’s top three music stars are hot air” was spot-on. While it is true our musicians have contributed to the developing of the industry, arrogance drug and substance abuse is causing a stir in their ranks.

It is embarrassing that big sponsors like a reputable telecomunications company can allow their corporate image to be associated with drug abuse like Bobi Wine’s promotion of cocaine.

The company recently printed posters with Bobi Wine’s car whose number plate has pictures of cocaine leaves. Why? What are they telling our children? Our musicians need lessons on how to manage success. When one collects a few bucks, they start self-glorification which is a sure passport to self-destruction. They fight and insult each other all the time.

Corporate sponsors and regulators of the music industry can bring back sanity and decency in music if they set terms or cancel contracts if say, a music model on their posters promotes drugs. Our musicians need managers to run their trade like any other business.
