Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye has agreed to meet suspended party member Beti Kamya.

Kamya, who is also the MP for Rubaga North, yesterday requested to meet Besigye to resolve the ongoing standoff.

Speaking at the funeral service of David Bulime, who was an FDC stalwart in Rubaga, Kamya also ruled out reports that she was planning to join other parties.

“Besigye is my president,” she stated after the service at Nateete Martyrs’ Church in Rubaga before dashing to meet him as he entered his vehicle.

“A lot has been written in the press about my disagreement with you. But most of the media reports are lies. They are outrageous,” Kamya was overheard telling Besigye.

In August, Kamya resigned her post of party envoy in the president’s office, accusing Besigye and top party officials of intrigue to deny her chance to be voted as party chairperson.

Asked whether the suspension had softened her, Kamya reiterated: “I have never left FDC.”
She also denied cancelling a youth conference in Masaka on Monday because of Besigye’s presence in the area.

The media yesterday reported that Kamya had called off the meeting after learning that Besigye was in the district.

Besigye said he was willing to meet Kamya but insisted that her suspension stood as the party announced last week.

However, sources said Kamya’s constituents had blamed her for turning against the party and asked her to apologise.

“On Monday, we criticised her for fighting Besigye yet he helped her to become a Member of Parliament,” a source said.
