ORIENT Bank has opened a new branch in Gulu town as part of the bank’s expansion strategy, Shamsher Khemani, the acting chief executive officer, said in a statement.

He said the bank would target unbanked people in the region.

“We want to help customer and the public improve their livelihoods through the different financial packages we have,” Khemani said.

“Opening a branch in Gulu fulfills this commitment.

“It is also in response to calls from our business colleagues to have a presence in the region,” Khemani said.

He noted that the branch which is located on Plot 15, Aware Road, would offer affordable, flexible and innovative financial solutions and excellent customer services.

Khemani said the bank would offer innovative products such as Orient Xpress Visa, NGO Account, Premium Account, Salary Loans, Business Loans and Savings Accounts.

This is the second branch to be opened upcountry by the bank this year.

The bank recently opened a branch in the eastern town of Mbale, bringing the total number of it branches across the country to nine.

It also recently moved its Kawempe branch to new spacious premises located on Plot 78 Bombo Road.

Khemani said the bank would open more branches in Arua and Kampala soon.

Orient Bank realised a profit of sh8b before tax last year, a 24% increase over the previous year.

The bank’s total assets grew by 31% and customer deposits by 37%.

Khemani said while announcing the results recently, the growth underlines the bank’s continuous improvement that had been its hallmark since inception in 1993.

The bank is part of the Bankom ATM network.

When announcing the results in a statement to the press, the Acting CEO, Mr Shamsher Khemani, noted that the Bank’s expansion programme embarked on last year as well as the several new products launched had proved successful.
