PAYMENT for 4,735 pensioners has been wired to their bank accounts, the public service ministry said yesterday.

The first payment was made last Thursday for the pensioners whose names appeared in The New Vision, the principal communications officer, Jonas Tumwine, said.

The second payment was effected yesterday for the pensioners whose names are in the paper today.

Tumwine said all beneficiaries whose names appeared in The New Vision should have got their money by today. Many pensioners confirmed receiving the money, said Tumwine.

Most pensioners who were paid last week are former UPDF soldiers, Police and Prisons officers.

In March, UPDF retired 3,231 senior officers. Sh15.84b is available for their retirement and disability benefits.

Others are former civil servants in the ministries of health, education, local government, agriculture and justice.
The other batch of about 1,600 former civil servants were paid yesterday.

“The last batch of the 4,735 beneficiaries have also been paid,” he said.

The Government recently released sh50b pension arrears to 4,735 beneficiaries. Some sh16b has been paid to 909 persons who served in local government; sh7b for 797 traditional public servants, while sh7b will be for 933 teachers, according to Public Service minister, Henry Muganwa Kajura.

Dissatisfied beneficiaries can call 0414-251006 or 0414-250534 for assistance.
