STATE sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi has ordered for a review of the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) constitution in a bid to to end the wrangles tearing the sport apart.

Bakkabulindi made the demand at a reconciliatory meeting attended by a breakaway boxing clubs led by Godfrey Nyakana, UABF secretary David Kyambadde and NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa this week.

But the meeting was not conclusive, so it is not clear who would effect changes in the constitution and when.

A source who attended the meeting confirmed the order but added that they did not agree on which articles should be changed.

“The meeting had submissions from UABF and Nyakana and minister that changes need to be made in the constitution but it was not conclusive,” the source explained.

UABF president Roger Ddungu did not attend the meeting due to business commitments.

Kyambadde, who was opposed to Nyakana’s invitation for the meeting, asked for more time to prepare for the next meeting.

Boxing clubs led by former boxer turned politician Nyakana petitioned NCS accusing Ddungu of tampering with the federation constitution and hiking the annual subscription fees.

Ddungu is also accused of manipulating the constitution to extend the executive term of office from two years to four.

Bakkabulindi had earlier on hinted on a plan to set up a fresh boxing normalisation committee in a move to end the crisis.

The minister had earlier expressed his disappointment at the move by top UABF officials were part of the earlier normalisation committee to have allegedly prescribed the contested sections of the constitution.

At the same time, rising pugilist Hamza Wandera will take on Haruna Hassan Diba in a ten-round non-title super middleweight contest in a show dubbed “Rumble of the Champs” at Sabrina’s Pub tomorrow.

“We want to bring you pure entertainment and to showcase some of the best fighters we have in our stable,” the group manager of Pro Box Scandinavia Jackson Mugisha said.

“It is going to be an explosive night of boxing.”

Wandera is young brother of former world junior middleweight champion Kassim “The Dream” Ouma.

Pro Box Scandinavia is also planning to organise a boxing gala in Kampala in December that will feature three world title fights.
