ARMY runner Francis Musani ended the three-year hold on the MTN Kampala marathon by Kenyans after he led a Ugandan 1-2-3-4-finish yesterday.

The 25-year-old Uganda People’s Defence Forces runner made up for the disappointment of failing to make it to the World Military cross country in Italy last month. This was only his second marathon, having last competed five years ago.

“I did not know that I could even finish in the top ten at this distance and my family will be very excited,” said Pte. Musani, who dedicated his title to his two young children.

Jane Suuto survived a muscle strain in the last kilometre to reclaim the women’s title with a new personal best of 2:48:42. Last year’s half marathon winner ran 2:48:48 in the 2005 edition.
