EAST African Breweries (EABL) has appointed Sandor Walusimbi as the new head of corporate relations at Uganda Breweries (UBL).

EABL is the mother company of UBL. Walusimbi has been the marketing manager of EABL Kenya.

He joined EABL in 1995 as a brand promoter, was promoted to brand manager, innovations and commercialisation manager, senior brand manager and marketing manager for spirits.

Walusimbi’s key achievements include helping to achieve significant growth in market share, volume and value of flagship beer and spirit brands namely, Bell Lager and Uganda Waragi. As a result both brands have continued to record phenomenal growth.

There has also been significant growth of other brands like Liberty, Bond 7, Gilbeys, Smirnoff, Richot, Pilsner, Guinness and Senator.

In an interview, he said one of the core challenges he has was to intensify the responsible drinking campaign.

“We recently embarked on a campaign aimed at encouraging safe and responsible consumption of alcohol as well as discouraging under-age drinking. We are strict on preventing under-age drinking,” Walusimbi stressed.

“Consumers are becoming aware of the importance of responsible enjoyment of our brands. However, we still need corporation from everyone,” he added.

Walusimbi said UBL had also taken part in community activities, which centre around three key areas namely; Water for Life, Skills for Life and the Environment.

“Provision of safe, clean water and hygiene in the communities we live is fundamental to EABL.”
