TWO new fully furnished classroom blocks have been donated to Onyede and Obosoi primary schools in Kumi district.

The director of BUILD Africa Uganda (BAU), Apollo Gabazira, handed over the buildings to the local authorities on Thursday.

The blocks are stocked with desks, office tables and chairs. BAU last year handed over two classroom blocks to the same schools.

Before that, the schools lacked permanent structures.

“I am delighted to see wonderful buildings standing in these school compounds. It is like a dream come true,” Gabazira said.

“Today the school buildings are no longer BAU’s property. They are your property as parents and the local community. You should ensure that they last and are maintained well,” he added.

Assistant chief administrative officer Angela Akurut hailed BAU for the resources and their contribution towards betterment of education in the district.

“Though we knew that these schools needed help, we couldn’t do much given our limited resources,” Akurut said.

A district education officer, Michael Otai, promised to post more teachers to the schools if enrolment of pupils increased. “BAU has enabled us meet the demand of parents who asked for classrooms .”

Onyede primary school previously had 160 pupils. However, the number rose to 240 last year.

The head teacher, John Robert Ocom, said he expected the number of pupils to grow following the completion of the new buildings.
