MEMBERS of the oppossition want their leader in the Parliament to resign.

They want Prof. Ogenga Latigo replaced for poor performance. Others in the same ship are chief whip Kassiano Wadri, commissioner Alice Alaso and members of the shadow cabinet.

At a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), some MPs queried the performance of the opposition leader in the Parliament.

Latigo however, said yesterday he was ready to relinquish his position if members proved that he and his cabinet had failed to champion the opposition’s cause in the Parliament.

“They must make a presentation to the party backed by solid evidence. If I have betrayed the party, then I can be removed.”

The position of leader of opposition in Parliament and that of the chief whip is open-ended with the former elected by the NEC and the latter by MPs.

FDC spokesperson, Wafula Oguttu, said yesterday the party had resolved to review the performance of its members but denied reports that the meeting resolved to drop the two top leaders. “No name was mentioned.

The review will be done for the entire group,” Oguttu said.

During the Tuesday meeting at the party headquarters, chaired by its president, Kizza Besigye, the steering committee was asked to start the process.

It also resolved to hold the delegates conference from February 11 to 13, 2009.

“The action to be taken will depend on the outcome of the performance review,” Oguttu said.
