FRESH investigations have been ordered into a land dispute in Nateete, a Kampala suburb.
Recently, Spear Link Auctioneers and Court Bailiffs evicted over 25 families and vandalised property.

The bailiffs acted on behalf of Saida Naggayi, who is still battling with Ssenkuute in court over the land.

While touring the area yesterday, the Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura, ordered the arrest of Corporal Ojok who oversaw the eviction, saying he disobeyed orders to prevent the exercise.

In his brief address to the affected families, Kayihura said: “I cannot accept this to go on. My officers who witnessed this havoc must be arrested and answer.”

He said the Police would institute thorough investigations into the dispute and arrest LC officials and court bailiffs who violated the law.

“Make statements and prepare to sue whoever was involved in demolishing your structures. We shall get you lawyers because those who did it must pay,” he told residents and victims.

He promised to charge the Police with criminal negligence.

“Police are supposed to witness evictions after thorough investigations to ensure that the victims are treated humanely but the Police officer and several Special Police Constables acted against these orders.”

A senior officer at the scene said the Police would consider compensating the residents for loss of property.
