POORLY organised events will be scrapped off the 2009 National Rally Championship calendar.

Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president David Bitalo yesterday warned that the competitions committee will soon study the FMU observers’ reports for all national championship events this year.

“Seven clubs have applied for NRC events next season and we normally have only six nowadays. Observers’ reports will be analysed and a club which organised its rally poorly may lose it. We can only have seven NRC events if we consult drivers and they accept,” Bitalo explained.

Uganda Motor Club (UMC) will regain the Independence Rally that was organised by Jinja Motor Club (JMC) this year. UMC was barred from organising the event this year following a financial dispute with Motorsport Africa Club.

JMC has applied for its own event, bringing the number of applicants for NRC races to seven.

The 2009 motorsport calendar will be released next month and the first championship event is scheduled for February.

Meanwhile, the Jomayi Sprint, the second last event on the 2008 calendar, will be held on December 7 at Jomayi Housing Estates at Mbalala in Mukono. The sprint will be launched today.
