EMMA Okwi catapulted SC Villa to the summit of the Super League table with a first half penalty that proved the difference in a lackluster fixture at Namboole yesterday.

The Villa forward struck his 12th goal of the season from the spot on 15 minutes, of the game where both sides sacrificed flair and passion. Simba keeper Simon Apedel had fouled Okwi in the area.

Villa’s glorified attack that included Chrizestom Ntambi was short on confidence going forward. Ntambi was later replaced by Mathias Ndaula, who felt undone after his would be second goal was ruled offside.

The win puts Villa at 39 points, two more than second placed KCC, who have a game at hand.

At Nakivubo, Bunamwaya was in control after Tony Odur’s strike at 15 minutes until Kasim Kasawuli equalised for visiting Maji.

Meanwhile, KCC will need a top-drawer performance in attack and a repeat of the support they have enjoyed in their last three games as they seek to pull off a result today against Nalubaale in their title pursuit.

The league champions’ treasured two-man attack of Robert Ssentongo and Brian Umony will have to replicate their yester-form if the Lugogo-based side is to get the better of the league’s most resilient defence at Nakivubo.

Patrick Waligo has made the ordinary, including his defence partner Aziz Mugonza, look decent. His no-nonsense style has complemented Mugonza’s cultured approach.

The chemistry between the two defenders has seen the Buikwe-based club concede just seven goals in 16 matches.

Their tackling and calm demeanour are what Nalubaale will need to suppress forwards Ssentongo and Umony, who have so far notched 16 goals between them.

“The attitude is positive and other than the injuries to Muhindo (Moses) and Senoga (Sam) we expect a good game,” KCC coach George Nsimbe said.

* Maroons, Jogoo Young, Ex-Villa, Nsejere, Entebbe Red Cross and Corporate XI teams have advanced to first round of the Kakungulu Cup after winning their preliminary round fixtures.

Iganga TC will take on fellow Super League side Kakira, who ejected Busia 2-1, on Wednesday.
Other Super League teams join the race in the round of 32 where holders Victors travel to Bugerere on December 7.

* Tusker Challenge Cup

URA FC has got an invitation by the Tanzania Football Federation to take part in the Tusker Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam December 15-27.

The event has been clearance by the regional soccer body, CECAFA despite its being very close to the Challenge Cup which kicks-off in Kampala four days after its final.
