LT. COL. Gaspard Gasanzwe has assumed leadership of the East and Central Africa Liaison Office (ECALO) secretariat of the military sports body that links the region with their global sports governing body CISM.

The Burundian army officer replaces Kenya’s Lt. Gen. Jack Tuwei, who handed over after a two-day sixth Annual General Assembly at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala yesterday.

“The Kenya Armed Forces is happy for having hosted the ECALO secretariat as first office bearers for two terms of four years each. During Kenya’s tenure a lot has been achieved,” Tuwei told delegates from CISM, Sudan, Burundi, Kenya and hosts Uganda.

“I wish to congratulate Burundi for accepting to take over. I urge you all to continue in the same spirit of friendship.”

Tuwei urged ECALO members to take advantage of athletics and boxing coaches training camp set by CISM at Kasarani complex in Nairobi, Kenya to equip their sports officials with coaching skills.

The meeting preceded the African military football body CAMFOOT competitions due in Kampala December 3-13.
