It took two appearances before 23-year-old Kate Menson from Ghana could realise her dream and win Africa’s biggest model search, M-Net’s Face of Africa at Sun City’s Super Bowl on Saturday. She won herself US$50,000 cash and a three-year modelling contract with Oluchi’s O Models Agency.
“I believed in myself and gave it all I had,†she said after the contest. “I knew if I did all I was asked of, I would do good.â€
Menson first auditioned for Face of Africa in 2006 in Accra, but was judged ‘a little bit overweight,’ so she went to work in the gym for her next try, this year. Asked why she was chosen, O Model’s Megan Kruger said Kate was the ‘total package’.
Uganda had 23-year-old Lucy Torr in the top 10, but she did not make it to the top five. Menson was joined in the top five by people’s favourite Alli from Nigeria, Maria from Namibia and Hiwott from Ethiopia
