IT was not clear why Silk Events management decided that guests turn up in angelic white at their end-of-year party. But it was amazing to see a sea of white uniform-like outfits. However, there were some people who wore colours far from white.

Friday night at Kati Kati was about purity, clarity and cleanliness, if that is what white stands for.

The emcee, Crystal Newman was fine as were the corporate guests from the telecommunications sector, security, media, among others who kept Silk Events busy this year.

For that reason, the proprietor Elvis Sekyanzi showcased the equipment he had. Peter Kagwa of Events Warehouse who did something similar at James Bond’s Quantum of Solace film premiere, watched carefully as his competitor unveiled his arsenal.

Sekyanzi’s equipment included lights, sound and a 15m × 12 stage. This is a step from the years when Uganda used to import everything including the stage from either Kenya or South Africa.

A fireworks display accentuated the event set in high mood by Soul Beat Africa and Juliana Kanyomozi.

The latter, in a killer white dress, experimented with live instrumentation on Nabikoowa, Nkyanoonya, Diana, Mundeke and Usiende Mbali. Her cover versions included My Divine (a gospel tune), Selena’s I could Fall in love and Mbilia Bel’s Nairobi.

The snacks were okay although the invitations had promised a barbeque. Though present, Sekyanzi delivered his speech digitally perhaps to remind guests of the technology at his disposal.

Sekyanzi went about greeting every guest and was in full working mood armed with his walkie-talkie.
