Teacher gets 10 years in jail for defiling Namagunga pupil

A TEACHER at Namagunga Girls’ Primary School was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling a 10-year-old pupil.

A TEACHER at Namagunga Girls’ Primary School was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling a 10-year-old pupil.

Charles Suuna, committed the offence on November 25, 2004.

The girl was not present during the trial but court relied on a medical report and circumstantial evidence.

Prosecution told the court that the girl went to clean the science laboratory but Suuna, after ascertaining that she was alone closed the lab door and forced her into sex.

“It was the girls friends who reported the matter to school authorities after she narrated the incedent to them,” Prosecutor Charles Kamuuli said.

In his defence Suuna denied having defiled the girl, but admitted having sent her to the office to get a pen.

“The girl came and told me she had a problem in science. that is when I sent her for a pen. She returned without it and I left for home,” he said.

He said he was initially tricked into admitting the allegations, so as to save his job.

The same court sentenced a 30-year-old man to 12 years in prison for repeatedly defiling his neighbor’s 10-year-old daughter.

Kizito Oboth, a resident of Kizigo village in Buikwe sub-county, Mukono district, on four occasions forced the student into sex and threatened to kill her if she said anythingThis was a profane and lustful act. Children need to be protected from such people,” Justice Mulyagonja stated in her ruling.
