UGANDA will earn a berth to the World Military Cup if they finish among the top three teams in the on-going Africa Military Football Championship (CAMFOOT).

The 2011 World Military Cup will be held in Brazil.

Uganda qualified for Thursday’s semi-final after leading group A.
Ugandan representatives UPDF who beat Guinea 3-1 last Monday and drew with Kenya 0-0 on Sunday face group B runners up that will be decided between Algeria and Gabon today.

Kenya takes on group B leaders Cameroon in the other semi-final.
“This tournament is largely meant to promote unity and brotherhood in African armed forces. But there is a lot more at stake,” said Organisation for African Military Sport (OSMA) secretary general Lt. Col. Abdullahi Maikono from Nigeria.

* Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) and sponsors GTV will handover air tickets this week to the nine teams flying to Kampala for the senior Challenge Cup.

The annual tournament involving the regional countries is due to start December 31 at Bugembe, Nakivubo and Namboole stadiums.

GTV will provide national teams air tickets and also cater for the contingents accommodation and transport in the sh997m five-year sponsorship package.

Save for Ethiopia, that is currently serving a FIFA suspension, other regional countries Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, Kenya, Burundi and host Uganda will compete for the annual crown.

Sudan is the defending champion.
“Everything is going on well. GTV are shopping around for another sponsor and hopefully, he will be announced next week,” said CECAFA secretary general Nicholas Musonye.

Uganda is in Group A that has Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda and Tanzania, while group B has Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, Kenya and Burundi.
