Together we can stop child sacrifice

As I write my heart is filled with grief, sorrow and bitterness because of child sacrifice. Our heritage, our leaders of tomorrow, our hope, is being killed.

Just imagine if Jesus had been sacrificed in the same way Joseph Kasirye was at the age of 12, what a loss the world would have suffered? Think of the losses this country has made out of the many sacrifices of children.

There is need to recognise that children are a wonderful gifts from God and in each of them, God has deposited powerful potentials and talents. Sacrificing them, therefore, robes us of the future human resource.

Child sacrifice is not only inhuman but also a barbaric practice. It violates the inherent rights of children especially “the right to life.”

Child sacrifice is one of the signs of primitive activities still existent in the modern era. It symbolises lack of civilisation for any type of community where it is practised! It is a sign of spiritual bankruptcy. The Police alone cannot fight this inhuman practice.

All of us must be at the forefront; individuals, institutions, children organisations, local leaders, parents, the youth, the children, we are equally concerned. Whoever we suspect as a “child monster” should be reported.

I cannot forgive the man who claims to have seen a city tycoon with his engineer and three “Kanyamas” burying a young girl in a foundation of his building in the centre of Kampala and chose to keep quite. This man should have reported this case to the Police immediately. Why wait to say it after two years?

It is our responsibility, especially teachers and parents, to sensitise our children about the dangers of accepting or even coming near to strangers.

All community members should be alert and inquisitive about the activities of the so-called witchdoctors.

The Police and local leaders should make regular ambushes to these shrines regardless of who owns them.

The Police should be vigilant. The Courts of law and the Police, this is the time to take action. I know in this country, the rich are always saved by their money and the poor always suffer, but child sacrifice must stop now.
