KENYAN Dismas Ndiza clung on to his comfortable lead to win the MTN Mug of Mug tournament at Uganda Golf Club yesterday.

Ndiza who went into the closing round of the four-day event leading by seven strokes shot two under par 70 for an aggregate of 277, beating second placed Deo Akope by eight strokes.

The burly Kenyan who pocketed sh1.6m in the sh10m tournament also takes with him the Kitante course record that he set in the second in which he scored 64.

“I was calm because I was under no pressure. I just wanted to keep afloat and take the money home. When I grasped the course it was pretty easy because I could get to the green in few shots. The prize money is quite good and I enjoyed the game,” Ndiza stated.

Akope comfortably claimed second position with third-placed Godfrey Mande and Rwandan Emmanuel Ruterana sharing third spot with 291.

George Olayo and Amos Kamya tied in fifth place while Kenya Simon Ngigi came seventh.

The tournament also doubled as Quarterly Mug in which sh3m in case prizes was won.

Akope came top in the Quarterly Mug while his rival Mande finished in second place.

The amateur version of the Mug of Mug tees off this morning with over 100 golfers in action.

The event will be crowned with what is expected to be a grand prize-giving ceremony at Uganda Golf Club tonight.
