Kawempe health centre gets maternity equipment

THE Foundation for International Community Assistance (FINCA) Uganda Ltd has donated delivery beds worth sh10m to Kawempe health centre.
While speaking at the ceremony last Thursday, FINCA’s chief executive officer Fabian Kasi, said their action was aimed at showing appreciation to their customers.
“We work within the community which needs to be catered for. Health is very important for the world to move forward,†Kasi said.
Kawempe division medical officer Dr. Stephen Nsabiyumva, said the centre did not have enough delivery beds.
“We need assistance to acquire other equipment.â€
He added that the maternity section was the most under-equipped.
Nsabiyumva said Kampala City Council only supports the centres in rehabilitation and maintenance of ambulances. Dr Godfrey Habomugisha said the hospital gets 12-15 mothers to deliver daily, but many are referred to Mulago Hospital
“Our theatre lacks the operation table, special lights, oxygen and sterilisers. With such conditions we can only send patients to other hospitals,†he explained.
He said the hospital gets sh7m every three months from the primary health care fund which is not enough to run all the services.
The centre mainly handles cases of malaria, respiratory diseases, and diarrhoea in children.
Division chairman Nasser Takuba, urged other organisations to support the Government saying every body needed good health.
