The member of Parliament for Ndorwa West in Kabale, David Bahati, recently commissioned Nyakibande gravity flow scheme.

The scheme, in Kitumba sub-county, was constructed by the diocese of Kigezi.

Bahati commended Kigezi Diocese and its Bishop, the Rt. Rev. George Katwesigye, for providing the residents with clean water.

The sh67m project was funded by the Christian Engineers in Development, who are friends of the diocese.

The scheme, which consists of three reservoir tanks and 12 taps, is expected to serve 1,736 people.
Bahati warned the residents that some water sources were contaminated with faeces, which might lead to the spread of water-borne diseases.

He appealed to them to boil the water before drinking it to protect themselves against the water-borne diseases.

Katwesigye said the National Water and Sewerage Corporation and the department of water pledged to extend water supply to areas in Kitumba where the gravity water flow scheme cannot serve.

He said the water would be supplied to all the residents regardless of their religious affiliations.

Katwesigye appealed to the residents to engage in income-generating activities for their own development and that of the area.
Kabale resident district commissioner Cox Nyakiru also attended the commissioning.
