aBy now you know that Kampala billionaire Charles Mbire is deeply involved with the soon-to-start Ecobank.

The Togo-based bank which operates in over 25 countries is the largest Pan-African bank on the continent.

The bank is set to open to the Ugandan public in January. He is the majority stakeholder.

Well, snoops now tell us that Mbire has been appointed the bank director. A graduate of Business Administration and an MBA holder from Leicester University in the UK, Mbire is believed to be the richest man in Uganda.

The last time we checked, his net worth was estimated at $55m (sh88b) but that was before the $800 oil deal and Ecobank. It is not clear how much more worth Mbire will really be by the end of the year.

Mbire’s asset base includes a 5% stake in MTN Uganda, a Kabale-based artemisinin-manufacturing Afro Alpine Pharma Limited (AAPL) valued at about $4m, a 49.5% stake in Celcom, a South African based MTN dealership and majority stakes in Eskom Uganda, the giant South African-hydro electric generating power company.
