MAKERERE High School has relocated, leaving students uncertain of where they will study from next academic year.

A source at the school yesterday revealed that they had acquired 300 acres of land near its sister school, Migadde College on Bombo Road.

The source said continuing the students had been registered at the college as the relocation process finalises. “The students were given admission forms for Migadde and circulars explaining the relocation before they went for holidays.

“The ministry has been giving us hard time arguing that we do not have enough room for expansion. They gave us a time frame in which to operate here and now it is time for a transfer,” the source said.

Located in Wandegeya, the school had been teaching A’ Level students only.
It is surrounded by hostels, shops and bars.

But the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Aggrey Kibenge, said: “I talked to the commissioner of secondary education (Yusuf Nsubuga) and he said Makerere High has its own internal problems.”

Nsubuga could not be reached for a comment. Students have, however, expressed worry about their future.

“We were only informed of the transfer when we went to pick our reports. We cannot be admitted to any other school because we were told it is too late. We badly need help,” said Brian Tumushabe in a letter to The New Vision.
