Six Somali nationals were arrested at Malaba border in Kenya as they attempted to cross into Uganda. It is thought they were trying to escape current operations to arrest defeated Islamic Courts Union militiamen. Police intercepted the bus carrying them at Amagoro in Teso district. Some of them were found to have improper identification papers that authorised them to enter Kenya. Four of them were fined Ksh6,000 each. Two were found to have valid visas and set free.

Kampala mayor Nasser Sebaggala has been discharged from hospital. Sebaggala was admitted at AAR Services three days ago with a stomach complaint. “I will be Ok. It was just a general body breakdown due to over-work,†Sebaggala said at the clinic. Sebaggala, who still looked weak, confirmed: “It was a very strong attack. Doctors have recommended that I should have a one-week bed-rest.â€

Nine Ugandan nationals were arraigned in a Kenyan court on Monday and charged with being in the country illegally. The senior principal magistrate, Kathogo Ngomo, ordered for their deportation on their own plea. Those who appeared in court included Rose Nandutu, Violet Nige, Rose Nabuti, Fice Nandutu, Charles Omar, Luka Wataka, David Sabwete, Vincent Wanyenye and Harriet Zaaki.

Police are holding a 40-year-old man, Robert Mugisha, for being in possession of equipment and materials used in manufacturing of counterfeit money. Fred Eriku, the officer in charge of criminal investigation, said Mugisha, alias ‘Black,’ was also found in possession of fake notes worth sh50,000. He was also found with bundles of paper in the shape of currency notes. Eriku revealed that Mugisha faced similar charges last year, but was released for lack of evidence.
