THE man, who reportedly masqueraded as a State House agent and conned a man out of sh116 million was yesterday charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

Dr. Moses Muntu Ndahendekire was charged at the Buganda Road Court and remanded in Luzira prison until January 22, pending inquiries.

Muntu denied the charges. The charges brought against him included forgery, impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.

Muntu allegedly obtained the sh116 million from Yunus Yusuf on the pretext that he would secure a loan for him at State House. He also allegedly promised to supply him with trucks. Yusuf was also allegedly told that he would be awarded a tender to rehabilitate the toilets at the army barracks.

Prosecution alleged that he also forged an identity card, claiming it was issued by the President’s Office.

Court heard that he had presented himself as an aide de camp, special duties, in the Office of the President.

Muntu allegedly committed the offence in the months of July and December in different places within Kampala city centre.

The Chief Magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, remanded him. This was on the advice of the state prosecutor, who said Muntu still had other pending cases, and expressed concern that the suspect would interfere with investigations if granted bail.

“The accused person is likely to interfere with inquiries. He should be released at least when the matter is thoroughly investigated,” Musementa said.

Tibulya said she would give her ruling on whether to release him or not on January 22. This is when the case will come up for mention.
