The Church of Uganda Archbishop, Henry Luke Orombi (left), has decried the high level of politicking in the Church.

He said the Anglican Church had become problematic because people were no longer praying to God to choose leaders for them.
“Every time there is a vacancy, people are politicking. This is a paralysis. It is a sickness and the product of this, is a sick leader.”

He was speaking at St. James Cathedral in Mbarara on Sunday during a service to bid farewell to retired Ankole Diocese bishop, Elisah Kyamugambi.

Orombi’s comments follow the recent rejection by the house of bishops of two candidates seeking to replace Kyamugambi.

“The Lord chooses and appoints leaders. Your role is to ask him for a leader by praying. Do not politick because the politics of heaven is higher than the politics here. God knows the person who can become a bishop,” advised Orombi.
He announced that retired Bishop William Magambo would take over the as caretaker bishop.

Orombi said the diocesan nomination committee would conduct fresh nominations in June.
